The EAA's annual AirVenture show at Oshkosh represents a real opportunity to combine a visit to one of the world's greatest air shows with a ride in a Flying Fortress. Today's date marks exactly seventy five years since the prototype Boeing Model 299 flew for the first time on July 28th 1935 at Boeing Field in Seattle. The aircraft we go and fly in is a direct descendant of that prototype. Who could have imagined back then that the B-17 would play such a pivotal role in history and would still hold a place of honour today.
